Mail Server Update Log

Thursday 6/14/2007: The Eonet Mail server has severe hard drive problems. The drive that stores customer emails is corrupted. We are in the process of installing a new hard drives on the server. Most (non-corrupted) mail has been saved and will be restored after the drives are installed. We are still hopeful that the mail server software is intact.

Update (Fri 1:30am) I've created an input form that, if used, will help me insure that all email users problems are handled. You can use this form to send me an email even if you can't access your email account. Or, you can use it to remind me of any other needs that you may have. This form is at http://www.plantitweb.com/userinput.asp

Update (12:30pm) We were able to restore most user accounts. There are still a few domains that are requiring a little more processing before they become active.

Update (Sat 10:00am) The electric company had a power outage in our area for about 30 minutes, I don't think it caused anything but maybe a monentary blink in services. Backup power supplies kicked in immediately.
I am still tuning the mail server and it may be unavailable during short periods this weekend.
I have also commissioned a custom server to be build to replace the existing mail server. If it is completed this week and all tests run successfully, we may perform the replacement next weekend. I want to assure you that the transfer will be transparent to the users. The existing mail server has been a good machine (until recently), but it is 5 years old with a 5 year old operating system and it is time to upgrade. (And it's IP address will stay the same - no more configuration changes.)
